Field product digitization that becomes a system of record

Assortment truth lives on shelves and in partner locations—not only in a PIM workshop. Retail and brand teams that want product digitization in the field need more than a camera: they need capture that survives interrupted work, incomplete connectivity, and the gap between a photo gallery and an operable product record.

That is the story behind our field digitization work: a mobile edge for capturing product photos, measurements, SKUs, and structured scan specifications—then writing them back to a durable backbone so brand and retail IT still have product data after launch week ends.

The challenge

Too many retail initiatives start as a mobile experience and fail when product data never lands. Images and notes accumulate on devices. Upload is opportunistic. Exceptions are invisible. The app becomes a stranded campaign artifact instead of a system edge.

Field conditions make the problem sharper: network drops mid-capture, specifications change, drafts must resume, and operators need to see whether a scan is queued, uploading, uploaded, or failed—without reconstructing state from a folder of files.

What we built

We built a mobile product-digitization workflow around scans as first-class work: draft and completed states, structured specifications synced from the cloud, local persistence, and an upload pipeline with queued, uploading, uploaded, and failed statuses.

Capture includes photos and measurements that travel with the scan. Background and launch-time sync drain the queue when connectivity returns, so field work finishes in systems of record rather than dying on the device. Authentication and device provisioning treat the app as an operable edge—not a disposable campaign shell.

The outcome

Field teams capture assortment where the product is. Brand and retail IT keep product data they can run after the launch event ends. Operators can clean exceptions instead of discovering missing records weeks later.
